China expands rail route via Caspian Sea to boost container volumes to Europe

China has launched a new rail service aimed at significantly increasing container volumes to Europe via its Middle Corridor and the Caspian Sea this year.

The initiative was unveiled during a meeting in Astana where Chinese President Xi Jinping and Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev inaugurated the China-Europe Railway Express.

This new service leverages a hybrid model to expedite shipments bound for Europe, traversing the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) from Lianyungang, China, through Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, and Georgia en route to Europe.
