Impact on Exports following FMD outbreak in Germany

FMD outbreak in Germany impacts exports

Germany has confirmed an outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) in a small herd of water buffalo in the Brandenburg region, north of Berlin. To contain the situation, German authorities have implemented strict control measures, including culling affected animals and establishing disease control zones.

As a result, export health certificates (EHCs) for relevant products being shipped outside the EU, including to Great Britain, can no longer be certified.

The Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) is urging farmers and hauliers in Northern Ireland to maintain rigorous biosecurity practices to minimise the risk of disease spread. On 11 January 2025, Minister Muir released a press statement addressing this issue.

We continue to monitor the situation closely and recommend stakeholders remain informed of any updates affecting supply chains and transportation regulations.
