UK tariff cuts on 89 imports

In a recent development, the UK government has suspended import tariffs on 89 “everyday” products until July 2027. This move aims to boost economic growth by saving businesses £17 million annually, with potential consumer price reductions ahead of the summer season.

Key Implications for Trade:

  • Tariffs reduced to zero on core commodities like pasta, fruit juices, coconut oil and pine nuts, easing pressure on food service and retail sectors.
  • The products also include plywood and plastics, which are essential for construction

The temporary suspensions align with the UK’s Plan for Change, targeting business security and household affordability.

These changes will support key growth sectors such as advanced manufacturing and clean energy to compete with international rivals, supporting the Government’s Industrial Strategy with the Plan for Change.
